Fungal dysbiosis (candida) evaluation and treatment

Since 1982 we have known that yeast/fungi situated within the human gut have been a major cause of many illnesses in human beings and we spend a great deal of time treating it. We are not sure if whether the problem is mostly a hypersensitivity to yeast like organisms like candida, trichophyton and epidermophyton or to an overgrowth of these organisms. There is much discussion going along these lines.

We do know that a huge number of patients get enormous benefit with a yeast free and sugar free diet, combined with powerful anti-fungal medications such as Nystatin or Amphotericin used in large dosage over a period of 3-4 months. The improvement, however, in quite a lot of patients can be obvious within a few weeks. We do sometimes, also, use systemic anti-fungal medications such as Diflucan, Sporanox or Lamisil in conjunction with Nystatin etc. Occasionally patients will improve with much milder products such as Caprylic Acid (Mycopryl).

Any patient, especially female, with symptoms such as wind, bloating, rectal itching, disturbed bowel function, non-bacterial cystitis and recurring vaginal thrush, would be more than highly suspect. The problem, however, also occurs extensively in men and can occur with few of the above symptoms to make it obvious.

Clinical trials have shown that candida albicans can be a cause of conditions such as urticaria, eczema and asthma. Clinical experience has shown it to be a major cause of irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, headaches, migraines, fatigue, etc.
