Tests for Heavy Metal Toxicity e.g. Mercury

The Biolab Medical Unit can measure mercury in the sweat, and other toxic metals such as aluminium, cadmium and lead. The most important of these toxic metals would appear to be mercury, which can be found in many peoples' mouths in the form of silver/mercury amalgams. Mercury is a highly toxic metal and had been assumed for many years to be bound within the amalgam. Meters have since been developed that can measure the amount of mercury being given off. Experiments by Professor Vimy in Canada where fillings were placed in the teeth of sheep, in which the mercury was labelled with radioactive isotopes, demonstrate that the mercury escapes throughout the body in a matter of hours.

The World Health Organisation has sponsored many studies in various parts of the world on the effect of mercury in humans and several countries, notably Scandinavia, have now banned their use in most dental patients. German insurance companies will now pay for the removal of amalgams from teeth, and a major manufacturer of amalgams in Germany has withdrawn from business.

Assessment at the Biolab Medical Unit, as mentioned earlier, helps us to identify patients where this can be a problem. We have seen quite radical changes in patients' health when positive tests have been followed by careful removal of the amalgams and replacement with composite (white) fillings. Some patients with multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue symptomatology, chronic headaches and chronic tinnitus have dramatically lost their symptoms within weeks. We never recommend the replacement of amalgams without first having clear evidence of mercury sensitivity.
