Initially, all patients would see a doctor for a 60-90 minute consultation. Prior to that initial consultation the adult patients would have normally completed an extensive Questionnaire to explore the possible allergic, environmental and nutritional causes of that patient's individual problem. At that consultation a decision is usually made as to the investigations and treatments most applicable to the patient's problems. These may include:
The Burghwood Clinic is able to treat children from birth for consultations and from 21/2 years for skin testing. When attending the clinic, children under 18 years of age must be supervised at all times by an accompanying responsible adult. Children under the age of 18 years are not accepted for IV treatments. A weekly-dedicated paediatric clinic is run by Dr Michael Tettenborn. Allergy testing at the clinic involves skin testing using the intradermal provocation method. This is distinct from the commonly performed skin prick testing used by most allergy clinics. Furthermore our desensitisation programme is based on a very different technique to the incremental desensitisation previously used by some N.H.S. clinics up to a few years ago. Incremental desensitisation is far less effective and carries a small but distinct risk of anaphylactic shock. In contrast, neutralizing treatment is totally safe - there have been no reported fatalities worldwide in the thousands of clinics that have been using this technique. Neutralizing vaccines only take a few days or weeks to work and the success rate is very high, in particular in patients with inhalant sensitivities. There have been over twenty clinical trials, both in the United Kingdom and the United States, that have validated its effectiveness and safety. Intravenous nutrient therapies and chelation therapy are offered at the Burghwood Clinic as part of our range of detoxification programmes. This has been set up in conjunction with Dr. Fritz Schellander who has been practising chelation therapy for the last 15 years as a fully qualified practitioner of the American College for Advancement of Medicine (ACAM) and the International Board for Chelation and Metal Toxicity (IBCMT). In addition to oral nutritional supplement programmes we offer intravenous infusions of a variety of minerals, vitamins and other nutrients.
* Conditions in which the role of such factors have been supported by formal clinical studies published in major medical journals are asterisked
