Classic allergies such as peanut are immediate and can be severe or life-threatening; however, they are usually simple to document with skin testing or blood tests. With many other persistent symptoms, finding the trigger(s) requires a more in-depth analysis and is more complex than suppressing the symptom with long-term medications. A hallmark of the immune system involvement is a multitude of symptoms. These often seem unrelated but are in fact random expressions of the same upregulated immune system. T-(helper) cells are known to be our early-warning system and the "buffer" between our body and our environment. The notion that the immune system is attacking its owner is, at best, incomprehensible and, at worst, misleading: the immune system has evolved to warn us against external factors such as toxins, infections, what we eat and what we breathe. Epigenetic changes in a person's DNA, sub-optimal nutrition, poor cell and liver detoxification, and under-performing mitochondria (the energy units in the cell) make the person susceptible to ill health.
