Chelation

Chelation is universally approved as the most effective method to use in cases of acute lead poisoning, however its most common use is to remove mercury and other heavy metals, if/when these are suspected to cause serious health problems such as atherosclerosis, coronary artery, peripheral vascular disease or central nervous system inflammation e.g. multiple sclerosis.

Hundreds of clinical studies have been published since the 1960s, mostly with positive outcomes but they have been critisised for being "poorly designed" until a multi-centre trial published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in 2012 which showed an impressive reduction of mortality rates amongst diabetic patients.

Most patients treated with intravenous chelation in our clinic, these days use it to improve their blood circulation in the presence of stenosis which does not warrant coronary graft or because they may be unsuitable candidates for surgery. Oral chelation may also be helpful on less serious occasions.

Other applications include improving the quality of life when the central or peripheral nervous system is affected or enhance detoxification in case of chronic debility, if/when heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium and others are documented as possible "causal" factors.
